Fed up with sewing patterns that just don't fit?
It's happened to me, and probably to you. The sewing pattern stash is almost as big as your fabric stash, but more and more often when you make one up the fit is wrong.
You just want to have a starting point that works for your body and your style.. and the best way to achieve that is to use your own body measurements to make A Pattern of Your Own. See what I did there? ☺️
help from someone who knows what they're doing!
Instead of watching all the free YouTube videos from those who either have no experience or are endowed with industry standard "perfect" body measurements which gets them the industry standard "perfect" block - and no criticism there, but that does not work for those of use with lumps, bumps and decades of life experience to boot! - come learn from this older woman, a trained fashion designer and creative pattern cutter, who also has lumps, bumps and decades of life experience like you!
I'm with you every step of the way!
In the course I guide you through taking the right measurements for the best results. I then teach you the exact processes I use to draft blocks for the bodice & torso, sleeve, skirt and trouser.
For each block type we'll make a toile, transfer the fit notes and have something that can be used as a base for your own sewing patterns again and again. Like the waistcoat above, which I drafted and made for my soon to be husband.
Let me share what you'll actually get from taking this online course with me!
So you'll never be stuck relying on pattern designers to make the "perfect" pattern for your unique body.
Used for upper body garments, and one that often trips people up when drafting from "simplified" YouTube tutorials, the bodice and torso block is a starting point for so much pattern fun!
I'll teach you my way of drafting one, but there will also be additional methods added that I'll walk you through, so you can choose the right methods for your body and your needs!
Used in conjunction with the bodice & torso blocks, having your own sleeve block opens up a world of sleeve pattern types.
As well as showing you how to draft a sleeve block, I'll cover splitting the one piece into a two piece for those times when you want to step into a more fitted or tailored project!
There are as many skirt styles as there are hairs on my head, but each of them starts with a skirt block. I have several methods to teach you and you'll finish with as many skirt blocks as you feel you can use in your life!
The one that everyone shies away from because it just feels "scary" - not with me by your side! Drafting a trouser block isn't as hard as you think it is, you just need a method that works, and that is what I'm teaching you.
As well as the basic trouser block drafting process, I'll also be teaching you other methods, so you can get the best fitting block possible.
I get great feedback on my 'teaching style' and so I thought perhaps a little sneaky peek might be helpful for you if you're still undecided.
Some Answers to Your Questions..
Questions come up with every course I run, so here are the most commonly asked ones!
If you have never worked with a sewing pattern before, then this course may not be right for you.
I guide you through the course using terminology that may not make sense to someone new to sewing patterns, but if you're eager to learn and up for a challenge, I won't stop you!
For complete beginners I recommend taking my Me Made Garment online course first.
Absolutely not! There are just five things you need to complete the drafting process: paper, a pencil, a straight ruler with a 90º angle, a measuring tape and a French curve for smooth curved lines.
When it comes to toiling you'll want sewing tools and fabric of some sort.
The course is available immediately with lessons released weekly on an ongoing basis.
We start with orientation, then work through drafting the bodice, sleeve, skirt and trouser in that order.
So if you're only wanting the trouser module, you'll have a little wait until that module opens up, or pop an email over and I can set you up with the individual mini course for it.
Earlier modules in the course will need just a few hours to work through and implement.
But as the course progresses, modules will require more time as the blocks get more complex.
In addition, sewing and fitting a toile, and making modifications to the block accordingly also take time.
There is no hurry though. You have lifetime access to the course and can work at your own pace.
There are no live calls included in the course, but I have included a private community that only A Pattern of Your Own students can access.
I am in that community answering any questions you may have and being present to support you throughout your journey.
You have access to the course materials for as long as it exists.
While I don't always have a course open to buy, those who have purchased will always have access to them.
The private community for the course will be active for as long as the course is active.
Hi, I'm Eve!
I'm a trained fashion designer, creative pattern cutter and online educator, and have spent ten years teaching women and men around the world how to design and make their own fashion via my blog The Creative Curator.
I love fashion, but I don't enjoy the never ending struggle to find RTW clothes that work for me and my body. So I now design and make everything I wear.
