Are you feeling the urge to start sewing? Maybe you struggle with how to use your sewing machine? The one that's been sat in a cupboard since you got it?
Perhaps you can sew but you'd just like to learn the correct way to sew all the sewing techniques used in making clothes? I hear you!
Because we don't suddenly wake up with the intention of learning a new skill.
I cannot recall the last time I saw something in a store that I drooled over. And I do still go to stores, looking for inspiration.
But, rarely do I get inspired. So much of what I see is drab, boring, tasteless...
I guess my taste is different to what fashion stores cater to, and if that's true of you, learning to sew your own clothes will be great for you!
This is a solid reason for learning to sew. I hate shopping for clothes, because my body is not 'made' for the clothes sold by stores.
My torso is longer than average. I have fat around my belly. And don't get me started on fitting the boobs into anything that is 'my size'.
Being able to sew my own clothes has given me a wardrobe of better fitting clothes.
Fast fashion gives you the ick, and you're keen to take fashion at a slower pace. Making your own is a great option, but you need to know how to sew to do so.
Once you know how to sew, you will have the confidence to tackle all sorts of projects for yourself or your home.
It could be sewing some curtains for your bedroom, turning up a hem on a skirt, repairing a shirt or ripped jeans or making the wedding dress of your dreams...
Once you know how to sew, the world really is your oyster!
but maybe you need to
Here's feedback from others who have learned from me!
"Awesome! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Very good instructions that must have taken a fair effort to put together and I very much appreciate it / you."
"I did a review but when I was typing my comments it did not let me finish. So just to let you know this was the best pattern. I have made 8 of these so far. Very easy and is so cute. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern."
"OMG! I did it and it turned out good. Sad youtube doesn't allow us to put pics to show our work, but that's ok. Can't wait to learn more. Thanks!"
An online sewing course, structured to guide you through the basics, created for sewing beginners like you.
You'll get confident using your sewing machine, understand which fabrics are great for beginners and learn sewing techniques needed for sewing clothes.
This is the only sewing course beginners need when learning to sew - and you get lifetime access too!
We start by learning about your sewing machine. From the type of machine you have, to how to thread it and install the bobbin.
You'll also learn about the sewing machine needles that can be used as well as the various sewing machine presser feet.
By the end of this module you will know you way around your machine.
While not all fabrics are considered to be beginner friendly, I do think that beginners should experience a variety of fabrics.
You'll learn about woven, knitted and 'other' fabrics and homework will have you explore the fabrics you currently wear and which appeal to you.
Learning to sew requires creating lines of stitches, so we start by tackling stitch lines. This helps you to build confidence in your sewing before moving on.
Next you'll tackle sewing the most commonly used seams.
Finally, there are lessons on finishing hems so that all your projects are neatly finished.
After feedback from students that have worked through the course, I have included my free sewing patterns as standard and add in other sewing patterns as the course progresses.
This ensures that you'll build upon the skills learned to become more confident in your sewing practice.
Let's take a peek at some
Learn to Sew is an 'open' online class, with no start date, so you can join at any time.
Absolute sewing beginners are the folks who will get the most from this online course.
I share techniques I learned from studying fashion design and working in industry, so anyone with an interest in the 'right' way of doing things may find some value in the course too.
This online course is taught via recorded videos, and all videos have captions personally transcribed by me for accessibility.
Any additional materials are provided in a PDF format for download.
No. Digital piracy is a thing, so video lessons are only available with an active internet connection to prevent others stealing and selling my hard work.
My online courses have ‘lifetime’ access for as long as the course exists.
You can return to the lessons as often as you wish.
There are no additional costs to me, you pay a one time fee for life time access.
You will require some basic sewing tools and fabrics for the projects. A basic list for students can be found here: https://www.thecreativecurator.com/learn-to-sew-basic-sewing-tools/
