Creative Dressmaking

If you're fed up with seeing the same sewing patterns regurgitated on repeat... or perhaps the the same poor quality yet overpriced clothes in stores... that never actually fit... then maybe you need to try something different. Something that provides creative freedom with the clothes you wear?

Creative Dressmaking is my new monthly members area, for those who want to create gorgeous unique clothes designed by - and made by - you!

Imagine being able to create a wardrobe of delightful creative clothes that actually fit?

Starting with a block/sloper or existing pattern that you know works for your body, each month sees a new project in which I guide you through developing (or hacking) a pattern to create something new and unique to you.

I'll break down each project into over the course of the month, so that you're not overwhelmed:

  • Starting with a project overview, I provide design inspiration that is a mix of contemporary and historical, and we look at the design elements within those examples.

  • We then consider design principles that you can use to make your project your own: this includes playing with proportions, shape or balance.

  • I then offer up starting pattern or 'block' suggestions. Some members will use blocks that they have created while others might use existing patterns in their stash, to create something new and exciting.

  • I take you through the block or pattern I plan to use along with some design variations I'm thinking about. This will help you to think more creatively about your project.

  • Before we can move onto developing the pattern, we need to consider fabric choice so that our project idea can be finalised.

  • Developing a base pattern into our new pattern is the next step, and I'll include pattern manipulation steps for those who aren't sure.

  • Once the pattern I hacked, we make a toile (mock-up) and then do a fitting. We look at what needs to be altered (if anything) and how to apply those changes to the existing pattern. We'll also finalise the fabric/s that you'll use for the final version and I'll share garment construction methods that will be good for your project.

  • And now for the final garment. I'll show you my finished project, along with notes that I made along the way - and you can share yours. If you're working slower, that's okay, the project discussion stays open and you can add your questions or your finished project to it at any time.

In addition to the above structure, there is also one member call each month, do that you can ask questions, get feedback and share ideas.

And there's also a dedicated member forum where you can post your questions, project ideas and more in a safe space away from social media.

I'm super excited to guide you on your journey of Creative Dressmaking, and can't wait for you to join!
